Congratulations on booking a summertime photoshoot! I'm thrilled to capture these special moments for you and your family. To help you look your best, here are some tips on selecting outfits and what to wear to your summer photo session!
Color Palette
Start with a Base Color: Choose a base color for mom's outfit, then build the rest of the family's outfits around this color. Incorporate neutrals and complementary colors. Some of my favorite colors for Summertime:
Summer Favorites: Muted pastels, warm earthy tones, creams, beiges, grays and classic black and white are perfect for summer photos. Avoid stark bright white or neon colors, as they can cause a cast on skin tones. Creamy white is a great alternative.
Avoid All Dark Colors: Surrounding your family’s wardrobe in all dark colors gives off a moody feeling, taking away from the light and airy summer feel. However, a black and white scheme will always be timeless and classic.
Patterns and Textures
Subtle Patterns: If you want to include patterns, stick to subtle ones. Mixing bold patterns on multiple people can look too busy.
Variety of Textures: Feel free to mix different textures to add depth to the photos. This can be especially effective in neutral color schemes.

Fabric Choice
Preferred Fabrics: Satin, tulle, silk, lace, chiffon, taffeta, and polyester blends are excellent choices for dresses. These fabrics lay beautifully and photograph well.
Avoid Certain Fabrics: 100% cotton or linen may not lay well in dress form, and viscose rayon often doesn’t hold up well through washing and steaming and can be uncomfortable.
Additional Preparation Notes and Tips:
Identify Fabric Types: When shopping, read fabric labels to ensure you’re choosing materials that will photograph well and be comfortable.
Accessorize Thoughtfully: Accessories can enhance your look but should be chosen carefully to complement rather than overwhelm your outfit.
Steam or Iron Outfits: Ensure there are no wrinkles in your family’s wardrobe.
Layout Check: Lay everything out on the bed, including shoes and accessories, to make sure it all vibes well together.
Share Your Vision: Text me your outfit choices and vision for the session—I’d love to see it and provide any additional input!
For Parents of Young Children: Pack your children’s outfits and change them in the car upon arrival at the location on Photo Day to keep their outfits clean and pristine.
By following these guidelines and tips, your outfits will help create beautiful, cohesive, and timeless photos that you'll cherish for a lifetime. Feel free to reach out with any questions or for further assistance. I’m excited to capture your family’s special moments!
