~What is the difference between a newborn lifestyle session and a newborn posing session?

A newborn lifestyle photoshoot and a newborn posing photoshoot differ in style and approach. Lifestyle sessions are typically done at home in a natural environment, focusing on candid, unposed moments that showcase a family’s genuine dynamics. These sessions often include parents, siblings, and pets, using minimal props and emphasizing storytelling over perfection.

In contrast, newborn posing photoshoots can be done in an in-home setting with the proper equipment or in a studio and feature stylized, artistic images of the baby carefully posed with props like baskets and blankets. This approach requires the baby to be in a deep sleep and is often done within the first 7-21 days of birth for flexibility and safety. For peace of mind, I have undergone specialized training in newborn posing photography, ensuring the highest standards of safety and care for your infant during each session. In summary, both styles are beautiful, and many photographers blend elements of each to suit their clients’ preferences. I own special lighting and posing equipment to be able to capture both types of photography within an in-home setting. When booking your session, please make sure you are aware of which style of newborn photography you would like. ~Who supplies the outfits or props?

For newborn sessions and other milestone moments, we discuss theme and wardrobe prior to the session.  I recommend wearing light colors such as creams, beiges, grays, etc. I also email a newborn prep guide out as we approach your due date. Prior to your newborn photoshoot I will contact you about color scheme for newborn clothing, swaddle wraps, and blankets and we will plan together. I supply baskets, blankets and swaddle wraps as well as a client closet for newborn clothing at no additional cost however there may be additional fees for other unique objects and personalization requested.

~My home is so dark! How do you handle photographing in different in-home locations?

Leave this part to me as your photographer! I can assure you I have the equipment and experience to capture whatever vibe you are looking for and will ask you your preferences when planning out the session. I come to every photography session with my soft box (continuous light) for newborn posing that also lights up an entire room for group shots; it's so powerful (though we do not have to use it at full power mode). I also like to utilize natural light from windows (because I like the look of natural light over studio flash in photos, plus you never know how a newborn will react to flash). Lastly, booking your in-home session at the right time of day is also important, for example, if you know that you get morning light in a particular room you would want the session in, it's best to book your newborn session in the morning.

~How are photos shared with clients?

Photo sessions will be emailed as a private digital gallery. Once sent, clients will be able to select photos, download, and purchase printed photos to share with friends and family! Your online gallery also contains a shop tab for photo gifts you can design. Please inquire if you would like me to design any prints, a lay flat or fine art album for you to purchase after your session.

~Do you travel outside of Metro Detroit and do you charge a travel fee?

Yes, I travel to other parts of the state besides Metro Detroit. Metro Detroit is my home territory so, if sessions are scheduled approximately 20 miles or less from my home in Farmington Hills, then I do not charge a travel fee. If you would like me to travel beyond the Metro Detroit area, then yes, a travel fee is added based on the distance and mileage.

~How do we schedule a photo session with you?

Please fill out the contact form on my website and I'll be in touch soon! All inquiries are sent to my email and you will hear a response back from me within 48 hours. I often am booking several months out in advance so reach out as soon as possible with your due date. I like to get to know my clients and tailor the newborn session specifically to your wishes. Once we decide on photo package, there will be a $75 non-refundable deposit as well as a signed contract required at booking to secure your date and time.
